Restoring Sanity and/or Fear

This weekend was the much anticipated Washington D.C. trip for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. There were so many highlights, that I'm not even sure where to begin. John Legend's performance, hearing Cat Stevens sing "Peace Train," the poetry reading by Sam Waterson, the benediction by the legendary Father Guido Sarducci. The Roots, Ozzy Osborn, Cheryl Crow, Kid Rock, good hell, I could go on. But I'd like to focus on the greatest message that came from this rally, best summarized in Jon Stewart's closing remarks. You can find a video of it here. (Feel free to skip the first two minutes) We need to stop viewing one another as political extremist enemies. Just like strangers merging in traffic, "you go, then I'll go," needs be the prevailing attitude. A great sign at the rally said, "I disagree with what you say, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler." People who we disagree with still have something valuable to add the conversation, and by immediately comparing them to Stalin or Marx, we contribute nothing to the conversation. America deserves rational conversation. Calm political debate. Sanity.

Anyway, sanity was restored on Saturday. Until I tried to get to the L'ephant Subway Station. That was insanity.

Looks like a good time. I have several friends who attended and they all had good things to say about it. Here's hoping for a better world. Always.

You are my coolest friend. I can't believe I'm related to you. I am so lucky. Way to be the change.

P.S. I'm sure your mother loves you, and you can sit on your hands.
